Moise Poida was congratulated by FIFA World Cup winner Christian Karembeu for his achievements in the national team colours of Vanuatu and club side Tafea FC following a night of wonder at Stade Numa Daly in Noumea at the weekend.
The Christian Karembeu Jubilee match drew a crowd of 11,500 fans to the national stadium and a television viewing audience of millions across the Oceania region as football fans gathered to pay homage to one of the South Pacific’s favourite football sons.
Zinedine Zidane, Youri Djorkaeff, Frank Lebeouf, Bixente Lizarazu, Bernard Lama, Lionel Charbonnier, Antoine Kombouare, Robert Pires, Laurent Blanc and five players from around the Oceania region including John Panu (Papua New Guinea), Fred de Jong and Vaughan Coveny (both New Zealand), Gideon Omokirio (Solomon Islands) and Moise Poida (Vanuatu) played a starring role

Vanuatu media was there in force as VBTC, Radio Vanuatu and The Daily Post attended the France ’98 press conference, FIFA/OFC Press Conference with FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter and OFC President Reynald Temarii and shot exclusive footage of Poida playing against football legends from around the world.
The OFC Youth Festival (of Football) also concluded on the weekend with Fiji qualifying for the Danone Nations Cup in Paris, France, later this year. Vanuatu’s teams attended the Christian Karembeu Jubilee match to see their local hero Poida rub shoulders with Karembeu and Zidane.

OFC General Secretary Tai Nicholas said Poida’s efforts had raised the profile of Oceania and Vanuatu football simultaneously.
“For Moise Poida to play alongside colleagues from Oceania against the likes of Zidane, Karembeu, Pires and Djorkaeff give young Ni-Vanuatu footballers something to aspire too.

For the Daily Post, VBTC and Radio Vanuatu to carry all the news of these events back to Vanuatu is even better. This match will be broadcast around the Oceania region and Moise Poida is now a household name in Oceania football.
Moise did both Vanuatu and Oceania proud – the kids from the OFC Youth Festival (of Football) have a hero to look up too and memories that will never fade,” Nicholas said.
